Hi Chris. The standard way to outline text in Photoshop 5.5 was using the Stroke command, on the Image menu (I think). However, that Stroke is permanent, and can't be turned off. I also quickly discovered that using the Outer Glow was a better method of outlining text. I never went above 2 on the Blur though. In Photoshop 7.0, in the Blending Options (Effects), just choose the Stroke option. This will create a perfect outline of any size.
