Hi :) My main point was that it's best to focus on something and be very good at it, rather than learn a bit of everything, and be average at all of it. It certainly can't hurt to know extra programs, but most of them aren't going to help you to become a better web designer. 3D modelling is great for the few people who can make it look good on a web page, and I've seen some pretty impressive Flash pages, but over all, these tools are very rarely useful for graphical web designers, which is who the article is aimed at. :)
